Work Life

Work - Your Experience
Work - Your Experience

Maybe you chose St. Vincent for its fun and tropical climate, but there is a very rewarding work side to it as well.

You can have a very high flexibility in your work schedule, but should you choose, there is an opportunity to get fully involved and make a difference. Depending on your chosen speciality, your medical placement and doctor to shadow will differ. Your first few weeks will mainly be spent learning about the socioeconomic and health challenges that Vincentians face on an everyday basis. You’ll make diagnoses, accompany doctors throughout their days’ work, get hands-on training and so on.

But there is more to your elective than the medical centres. For example, CEA is partnered with the Football Federation and Olympic Committee. With these in mind, you will have the opportunity to get involved with the sports sector from a medical perspective. You can attend sports-health meetings, host health fairs, lead CPR workshops, teach Sex Ed in schools, and more! And if you come up with a unique idea in relation to your speciality’s work on your own, we will do our best to assist you in its fruition.

Leisure

Leisure - Your Experience
Leisure - Your Experience

How you wish to spend your leisure time is entirely up to you! Our team is on hand to recommend the best of what SVG has to offer. The adventurous may wish to spend time hiking the volcano, kitesurfing in Union Island, or seeking hidden waterfalls on the mainland. You can immerse yourself in the culture by attending a “River Lime” (a get-together at one of the many rivers) or indulge with local cuisine. For something more extravagant, you can take a trip down to the millionaires’ island Mustique or the billionaires’ island Canouan for a luxurious spa day. And of course, nothing beats the special simplicity of a day at the beach. We’re quite sure it’ll be a different experience than the beaches of Cornwall.

You will never be bored when visiting SVG.

In what other elective company does the Director own and operate his own boat touring company? In addition to his involvement in the medical community, Khari runs Island Fever SVG. He is more than happy to arrange tours on his boat: down the Grenadines, cruising the sunset-lit waters, or up to Falls of Baleine (one of SVG’s most beautiful waterfalls – and only accessible by boat!).

Exploring Saint Vincent and the Grenadines by water is one of the best ways to catch the island fever!

As a partner of the Hughes Dougan Foundation, we offer Q&A sessions in social settings with our core doctors, and Dr. Hughes Dougan himself. You can enjoy a dinner with doctors that inspire you. Inquire about what inspired them to seek careers in the medical field, how they got started, challenges they have faced, details about overcoming the poor healthcare system in the country.
